Cinco de Mayo is a time to celebrate Mexican culture, enjoy good company, and, of course, sip on a refreshing margarita. Whether you’re hosting a fiesta at home, planning a night out, or organizing a big event, margaritas are the drink of choice. But what makes the perfect margarita? At Winston’s Bar Service, we’ve got the recipes and tips to make your Cinco de Mayo celebration unforgettable.

A Brief History of the Margarita

The margarita is one of the most beloved cocktails in the world, and its origin story is almost as legendary as the drink itself. There are several theories about how the margarita came to be, but most of them center around the idea of a bartender’s twist on the classic cocktail. Some believe it was created in the 1930s by Mexican bartender Carlos “Danny” Herrera for a special customer named Margarita Sames, while others argue it was invented in the 1940s by a bartender in Tijuana. Regardless of its true origin, the margarita has become a staple of Mexican cuisine and culture, and it’s a perfect choice for Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Classic Margarita Recipe

To get started, let’s keep it simple with the classic margarita recipe that never goes out of style. Here’s how to craft the perfect margarita:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Tequila (100% agave)

  • 1 oz Triple sec (or Cointreau)

  • 1 oz Fresh lime juice

  • Salt (for rimming the glass)

  • Lime wedge (for garnish)

  • .5 oz agave nectar

Instructions:

  1. Start by rimming your glass with salt: rub a lime wedge around the rim and dip it into a plate of salt.

  2. Fill a shaker with ice and add the tequila, triple sec, and lime juice.

  3. Shake well until chilled.

  4. Strain into your prepared glass with fresh ice.

  5. Garnish with a lime wedge, and you’re ready to celebrate!

Winstons Pro Tip: Always use fresh lime juice! It’s the secret to balancing the perfect tang and sweetness in your margarita.
